Jim McGovern speaks out in defence of public sector pension holders
  
During Cabinet Office questions today in the House of Commons, Dundee West MP Jim McGovern called on Cabinet Secretary Francis Maude to honour public sector pension commitments.

Jim McGovern said;

“The concerns of public sector workers are very real and must be taken seriously by the government. These pensions must be seen as deferred wages, they are not a free hand out. Public sector workers, like their private sector counterparts, pay into their pension scheme and deserve to have that money returned to them when they retire.”

Mr McGovern concluded;

“The Secretary of State said there is still a long way to go in discussions with the trade unions over this issue, in order to avoid strikes. I hope he is right, no one wants to go on strike, especially the workers but the government must do more to address their concerns and honour the commitments given to pension holders.”
