Change of Surgery Venue

Jim was responding to a topical issue, that of bovine TB which has some relevance to the more rural areas of the new Dundee West constituency. Mr McGovern’s question was in response to a written statement published by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs which had been published that morning.

This comes from a debate in the Standing Committee considering the Work and Families Bill. Jim was concerned that there was a loophole in the way the law was worded which would allow those companies that did not recognise bank holidays to restrict the number of holidays available to their staff by ending bank holiday entitlement. Jim favours 20 statutory paid holiday in addition to a guaranteed 8 days paid public holidays which can be taken in lieu if it is necessary for staff to work on a public holiday.

Here Jim is responding to calls from the SNP in Parliament for Scotland to have unique control of all its energy resources with proceeds going to the Scottish Parliament. Obviously this would go against the current provisions laid down by the Barnett formula which have benefited Scotland massively over the past 8 years.
